Boston

After leaving Cape Cod we had a short stay in Boston before catching our flight to Washington DC.  I have to say, I was quite impressed by how tourist friendly Boston is.  Sure, it is terrifying to drive in downtown Boston but the city itself is perfect for tourists.  To get our bearings we asked our cab driver the one question I always like to ask locals: "If you were only in your city for an afternoon, what would you do?".  He responded by telling us that we should definitely do a harbour cruise to get a view of the Boston skyline.  We then did a little research (aka Googling) when we got to the hotel to see if there was anything else that we should do and stumbled upon an abundance of information about the Freedom Trail.  The Freedom Trail is a red path that runs through the city and guides people to major historic sites.  The path is laid into the sidewalk and makes navigating the sights absolutely foolproof!  I am so glad that with our limited time in Boston we were able to see so much thanks to the Freedom Trail and the Harbour Cruise!  All in all, a fantastic day in Boston!  

Love this!  A donkey with a 'Stand in Opposition' sign across from it.  Right nearby there was an explanation of how the Democrats got the donkey as their symbol and how the Republicans got their elephant.

Nantucket

As a kid I was always reading books that featured summer vacation hijinks at the 'summer home'.  The towns I read about and imagined looked a lot like Nantucket.  Nantucket is seriously picturesque - old homes, ocean views, and gorgeous greenery all make up the gorgeous landscape.  We took the ferry over to Nantucket one day from the Cape and spent the day exploring the island on foot.

Cape Cod

After spending 4 days in New York we headed off to Cape Cod for a 5 day break.  We took the train from New York to Boston and then drove the rest of the way.  Cape Cod is an amazing, picturesque, perfect place.  We spent the 5 days driving around the Cape, visiting beaches, and relaxing - it was phenomenal!

I absolutely loved the JFK Museum in Hyannis Port.  It is filled with amazing photographs of the Kennedy family's time at their home in Hyannis Port.  If you go to the Cape be sure to check it out!

New York State of Mind

Well, I'm back after a whirlwind trip that included New York, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Boston, Chesapeake Bay, and DC.  Our first stop was New York.  We arrived on the red eye flight and promptly set out to take in some sights.  That was a loooong day, especially given that we had tickets to the night session of the US Open that night.  Our matches were supposed to start at 7pm but we wound up not starting until around 9pm because the men's afternoon match between Tsonga and Fish went long.  Once we were seated we were treated to the amazing women's fourth round match between Wozniacki and Kuznetsova and the men's fourth round match between Federer and Monaco.  The rest of the trip included a rained out Yankees game, amazing fourth row tickets to Wicked, delicious dinner (check out Serafina Broadway for their Raviolli alla Salvia or any of their pizzas and The Chelsea Grill for pretty much anything on their menu), and lots and lots of sightseeing.

On one of our New York days my camera battery decided to crap out so this will only be round one of the New York photos.  More to come :)

 

Lucky

Sometimes we all need to be reminded of how lucky we are.  Not only have I had the chance to travel to some absolutely amazing places but I also happen to live in the most beautiful city in the world (not that I am biased or anything).

Whenever I need a reminder of how gorgeous it really and truly is here in Vancouver I have to look no further than the ocean.  I took these two photos last summer on a day when the sunset was particularly lovely.  This sunset reminds me of the sunsets I used to see in Indonesia when I lived there briefly as a kid - all reds and oranges.  So gorgeous!

Bright Lights, Big City

I am officially 22 days away from getting on a flight to New York!  I could not be more excited for my two week East Coast vacation.  The last time I was in New York I stuck exclusively to the city and had an amazing time.  This time though, I get to travel all over.  I cannot wait to show you all of the pictures from the vacation!

Long Weekend in the Okanagan

It's a tradition in my family for us to all get together for the BC Day long weekend for my Mom and Aunt's birthdays.  This year was no exception.  Bright and early Saturday morning I left the chaos of Vancouver for the relaxing Okanagan and am I ever glad that I did!  The weekend was amazing - full of sunshine, great books, wine, and family fun.
