There's Nothing Better...

than a sunny day in Vancouver.  I feel so fortunate to live in this gorgeous city.  I think that most Vancouverites tend to forget how amazing this city is when the rain sets in and we go days without seeing the sun but as soon as it comes out like it did today everyone is out and about enjoying it.  This afternoon I grabbed my camera and set forth to enjoy the beautiful day on the seawall.

Love this building

Inukshuk - English Bay

This is my favourite residential building in Vancouver - one day I will have a place here.  It reminds me a lot of the buildings that you see in Europe.  It also happens to look amazing all lit up at night.

Mmmm sunshine!

One of my favourite Vancouver moments involves this statue.  One night I was running the seawall late at night and as I ran past the statue I realized that someone was sitting inside with a guitar.  I removed my headphones and sure enough, the person was quietly playing the guitar inside the statue.  It was beautiful.

Love the bridges and the water in Vancouver.

More bridge shots

Yet another...

In my grade 12 photography class I took an entire series of photos of boats - I guess my love of boats hasn't worn off.

Ferry boats

Nothing like an inspirational phrase at the end of a long walk :)

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend!

Home Sweet Home

This past weekend I headed home to Victoria.  I love living in Vancouver but am so happy that I get to go back to visit from time to time.  The air is crisp, the scenery is gorgeous, and it is so so so quiet!  I had a nice weekend of long walks, fun with the fam, and visiting friends.  We all need that sometimes.

Spring is on its way!

Love the crisp ocean air...

Beautifully green

Lovely

As a side note, I have not been able to stop watching this YouTube video of Adele performing her song Someone Like You.  It is so amazing!

Vernazza

This picture is another old fav.  I love Italy - I mean love love.  Vernazza is a small town in Cinque Terre, which is made up of 5 towns that are connected by a walking path and the only ways to get from town to town are to walk or to take the train.  The town itself is built up onto the hills and is so gorgeous (lots of stairs!).  The first time I visited Vernazza we split the walks amongst a couple of days but the second time I visited we decided to take the train to Monterrosso to start our walk and walked the whole path all the way to Riomaggiore.  I took this picture of Vernazza from the path because I love the colours of all the buildings and the look of the steep cliffs and rocky landscape.  It really is such a gorgeous town.

Just a Girl and Her Lens

I met with a friend yesterday for coffee and we got to talking about our favourite things and what makes us happy.  I started to tell her how much I used to love photography and how much I used to love going out for hours to take photos.  She asked why I liked photography so much and the only way that I could describe it was that when I am taking photos it is just me and my lens (hence the title of this blog).  Everyone searches for that one thing that makes the rest of the world melt away and photography does that for me.

This blog will follow the adventures of me and my camera and the stories behind the photos that I post.

To start us off, here is one of my favourite photos of the Louvre in Paris.  For 2 and a 1/2 months in the summer of 2007 my friend Kathryn from A Domestic Goddess Wannabe and I travelled around Europe.  Some of our best days were the ones spent just wandering around exploring the cities we were visiting.  The night I took this photo we were just wandering around Paris and we ended up at the Louvre.  The light was perfect and the pyramids just looked so gorgeous.  We spent a verrry long time taking photos and walking around.  What a great night!
